The basic purpose of Multimodal Transport under a single document with specified liability regime, single responsibility, single invoice to cover the entire transportation chain. Exporters should use Multimodal Transportation system for transportation of goods and they can approach Multimodal Transport Operators, who will do the whole range of activities i.e. right from acceptance of cargo, issuance of Multimodal Transport Document, transportation of goods entrusted by more than one mode of transport and arrange for the delivery of cargo at the destination. Exporters thereby need not approach various agencies for transportation of goods but approach only a single agency namely a Multimodal Transport Operator.
